School Vouchers in Sweden

I was very interested to learn that a school voucher system was been tried very successfully in Sweden (one article on it). The system was apparently very quickly accepted and has lead to marked improvements in education quality and both teacher and student satisfaction. I am trying to figure out why this idea isn't supported more in America.

because it's failed miserably in america.

It's failed politically to be sure, but I've yet to find anything that suggests it's failed in implmentation in the few places where it's been tried. I would like to see what makes you say it's failed, mostly because I'd be very interested in why it failed. Consumer side subsidies are much more likely to be efficient than producer side subsidies.

After thinking about it, I'm even more confused as to why you would oppose school vouchers. It seems like exactly the sort of decentralized socialism that you seem to favor (and indeed seems to work much better than centralized planning). Could you explain why you don't think school vouchers work?
